Weight loss
is simply a matter of consuming fewer calories than your body uses over a
period of time. So an easy fix: eat fewer calories, burn more calories, and
the excess weight goes away. The problem
is many factors can affect this equation:
lifestyles,
work, busy schedules, stress, depression, anxiety, events, holidays, birthdays,
family, friends, children, responsibilities, etc. This list could continue to infinity. And the items on it are about life; they are
not going to go away and allow us to manage our weight. So we have to learn to manage weight loss
without letting life’s constant distractions get in the way.
I have been
working with clients on these same issues for the past 15 years. I’ve worked with people in their teenage
years through those in their 70’s and 80’s, all with different issues and
obstacles. Learning to overcome these
issues, whatever they may be, is what will determine your success.
What I do
know is YOU CAN LOSE WEIGHT.
I’m sure
many of you have tried something and have lost weight in the past only to put
it back on again. This negative outcome
usually leads to trying something different with the same results. This is commonly known as the Yo-Yo
effect. The way I see it is this: You
make changes to your behaviors and lose weight.
When you become satisfied or bored you eventually return to your
previous behaviors. Before you know it
you’ve gained back the weight you lost and maybe more! That sucks!
So why does
this happen? The problem is your fundamental
habits. You made temporary changes to
your behaviors that gave positive impact to your weight, but you continued to
return to your previous behaviors that created your problem to begin with. This is where the change needs to take
place! We need to make changes to our behaviors
that allow those behaviors to become our new fundamental habits. If you do this correctly, you will not only
LOSE THE WEIGHT, but you will KEEP IT OFF!
How can you
do this? Here are a few steps as I see
it!
Step 1: Identify your
problem areas.
Step 2: Make a
realistic plan on how to change them.
Step 3: Develop a
strong support system.
Step 4: Follow your
plan!
Step 5: Correct and
adjust your plan as you continue to learn.
Vince
Lombardi once said: “Most people fail, not because of lack of desire, but,
because of lack of commitment.” Over
the years I’ve helped a lot of people lose weight. Many have lost a significant amount of
weight. I few people have even lost more
than 150 pounds! Does everyone I ever
work with lose weight? NO!!! But the ones who are willing to make real
changes usually do! It isn’t easy, but it
is possible! Continue to stop by as I
hope this can be a tool for you to make positive changes in your life!
I will be stopping by regularly looking for new blogs and healthy hints. Thanks for your effort.
